Artist Statement

I am a multimedia visual artist and creative writer. My work aims to comment on human nature, mental health, gender roles, and the patriarchal view of women. I have always loved fairy tales and mythology and use this passion to play with the boundary between whimsical fantasy and horror. Most of my work has been driven by my own passion for mental health awareness, processing trauma, and my own lived experience. I use my work as a way to process my emotions while simultaneously connecting to the world and people around me. My work is an expression of my state of mind– I enjoy embracing my imagination and diving into my inner child’s sense of wonder.

I have always been drawn to work like that of Trulee Hall, Allison Schulnik, Dorothea Tanning, and Leonora Carrington. My past work has primarily consisted of 2D work– drawings, paintings, and digital drawings. As my practice continues to develop, I have begun to create more sculptural and installation-based artwork. Keeping an open mind and exploring the unknown are essential aspects of my practice. I used to claim that I was a painter–now I simply say I am an artist; not confined to one medium or subject. My artistic practice has and will continue to grow and expand with me. The process of creating and experimenting is a vital aspect of my artistic process. Most of my work is not planned, it is spontaneous and imperfect–my process of creating is just as vital as the finished piece of art. Through creating artwork I can let go of perfection and lose myself in the process of creating. Recently, I have decided to expand my creative process further by experimenting with creative writing and working on an illustrated fantasy novel.
